About Me

Hi I'm Ms Katie, and I am so excited to be teaching English with Global Leaders Academy. My love of storytelling and reading is rooted in the theater. I earned my college degree in theater arts from American University in Washington, DC where I fell in love with directing as well as acting. I moved to New York City in 2016 to earn a master’s degree in journalism, shifting to a different kind of storytelling. My work today is driven by my interest in social justice issues. I am a reporter and documentary photographer focusing on gender inequality and immigration and have been lucky enough to report on human rights in the United States, the Middle East and Asia. I believe imaginative storytelling allows us to stretch ourselves as thoughtful writers and instills empathy in each of us. Live storytelling also opens doors to conversations about the world around us. In my class, which focuses on non-fiction writing, the students will work to turn the events that are happening in their everyday lives into vibrant and engaging stories. Each student’s experiences are unique, and I want to help them see that they have interesting tales to share. Outside of work, I am a distance runner and rock climber and a voracious consumer of breakfast pastries. No place makes me happier than the ocean, because it is where I do my best reading! I look forward to meeting you all, and cannot wait to hear your stories

  1. Jun Zha

My child was very shy and afraid to raise hands in the very beginning of this class. I found him laughing and acting in this class recently. I'm so proud of him but all the credits should go to Ms Katie who provides a very comfortable environment to the class. - Acting

  2. A GLA Parent
